INFOCUS or the Latin American Forum of Fungal Infections in Clinical Practice

Instituted 19 years ago, and during these years has become the main scientific event on fungal infections in Latin America.

In 2020, due to the evolving global COVID-19 pandemic, INFOCUS organizers decided to convert the 2020 annual meeting to a totally virtual event. The INFOCUS Web Hall.

In order to alternate with TIMM (Trends in Medical Mycology) ECMM, Europe, INFOCUS will have to different future formats: In even years, INFOCUS will be a regional meeting and it will be conducted in Portuguese and Spanish and will be populated with speakers from Latin America, with the main goal of engaging new young research and clinical talents that have been working in the field of Medical Mycology. This event format will facilitate the incorporation of young, new MDs and PhDs in the scenario of continuous medical education in Latin America.

In odds years. INFOCUS will be GLOBAL and it will be organized in different countries of AMERICA with the participation of speakers and scientific leaders from different continents, as part of our collaboration and partnership with ISHAM, CDC-Atlanta, ICHS, TIMM-ECMM, API and SBI. This meeting will be conducted in the English language and will have the participation of many key worldwide leaders in the field of Medical Mycology that will come to our region to discuss fungal infections under the perspective of INFOCUS LATAM. .

The main proposals of the INFOCU-LATAM are

  • To connect graduate students and health care workers interested in contributing to the development of local educational programs and guidelines for improving the early diagnosis and best clinical management of patients with fungal infections in our region
  • To promote and facilitate the conduction of collaborative multicenter studies delineated to understand the epidemiology of fungal infections in LATAM
  • To encourage advocacy initiatives necessary to convince health policy makers and hospital managers to provide better support to medical assistance to patients suffering from opportunistic and endemic fungal infections in our region
